Summary

The Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law (AFSL), adopted 2021-06-10 by the NPC Standing Committee and effective on that date, is the statutory basis for China's countermeasure list. Arts. 4–6 govern who may be listed and the menu of countermeasures (visa denial/entry ban/deportation; freezing of property in China; prohibition of transactions and cooperation; other necessary measures); Art. 15 extends the law to organizations and individuals that endanger China's sovereignty, security or development interests.
